Glassroots 501(c)(3) recycles your glass to build climate resilience in New Orleans and Southeast Louisiana.
We are reusing and transforming traditional glass waste into resources for our local communities.
Our impact
In 2018, only 107 tons of glass were recycled across the entire state of Louisiana.
Since opening the first Glassroots drop-off in fall 2022, we have expanded to 17 drop-offs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge and have helped Glass Half Full recycle over 4,000 tons of glass!
Accessibility and transparency
Accessible recycling should be a given—at Glassroots, it’s our number one goal. As we grow, we are constantly expanding to new areas of service. Take a look at our drop-off map to find the closest location to you!
We want you to feel confident about where your glass goes when you recycle it. All of the glass we collect is processed locally by Glass Half Full for use in our coastal restoration, green infrastructure, and disaster resilience projects.
Education and service
We coordinate service-learning opportunities with local K-12 schools and universities to educate the next generation about climate challenges and engage them in climate solutions.
We’re proud to work with over 2,500 volunteers at our drop-offs and for restoration and resilience projects. Sign up to volunteer and subscribe to our newsletter to learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Restoration and resilience
Glassroots works with partners and volunteers on environmental projects to help strengthen our coastal communities.
Past projects include: implementing storm drain filters with CSED in the Lower Ninth Ward, creating a French drain with Common Ground Relief in their tree nursery, and working with Glass Half Full, CRCL, ReCoast, Common Ground Relief, CSED, and many others to restore coastline using native marsh grasses and recycled glass sandbags. We have also distributed over 800 flood prevention sandbags in our communities to date!
